Home is Where the Heart is.

I'm on the fly here with titles and themes. I have only just moved house and felt a range of emotions that came with that. It was a rushed job and I was scared for a moment where I would live. Would I be homeless with two cats? The story behind this made me angry but I was protected, and my son saved the day.

In the end it dawned on me how important having a safe 'home' is. Whether it is a physical home or a psychoemotional one. Metaphorical. What do I mean by this? Well, what do you think of when you think of home? A house is one thing. Another is friends, family and colleagues. People we feel safe with.

People who are 'home' to us are those who make us feel loved and safe. A home is far more that four walls. Even though that is important too. Finding people who are out tribe. Blood related or no. We need that framework and community around us.

The other concept I want to postulate to you is the one of 'home' being within you, yourself. Close your eyes. Take a gentle, deep, slow breath and exhale the stress out. What do you feel inside? Imagine the feeling of calm that you dream of. Imagine feeling that no matter what troubles you have, you will deal with it and in your own time. That calm. That stillness. That pause inside you is your 'home'. The feeling of home that can be outwardly or inwardly manifest.

When we are anxious, we need to ground and centre in order to regain capacity to move forward again and out of 'freeze' mode. It can be sensory and emotive. Remembering how it feels to be safe. Even in the eye of the storm. To create the sensation of 'home' within in order to ride the storm out. Slowing the thoughts down and laser focus your aims and goals. Not veering off track or letting others pull at you.

Home is where we feel safe and yes, a physical home is important, but so is the one we create in our psyche and heart. It's akin to mindfulness and being present. Being in the moment and not thinking too far ahead. Your body, mind and soul ARE your home. We are born with nothing, and we die with nothing. Meaning all that we have around us is material and only symbolic of what we have attained. When really what we have gotten is really internal. In our growth, evolution and life experience.

So try to remember the sensation of feeling 'home'. Use this as a safe haven to work from. It may seem weird to do this but bear with me. Once it becomes second nature it will automatically slot into place when needed. Like muscle memory it will become mental memory. Second nature. You will then realise you are actually more in control than you think you are.

In the meantime, hang out with people who are 'home' to you. Burn the feeling of 'home' into your memory and utilise it in other situations.

I hope this helps in some way. I know it has for myself.

See you next month.
