Referring back to my mini LIVE on my Facebook page Angel by My Side, where I discuss how I can help, we counsellors can help almost anyone if they are open and willing to help themselves.
We provide a service where we are totally unconditional and will listen to all your problems. A lot of people seem to feel this is not enough or that they think you are paying for someone to listen to you. Especially if they have never had therapy of any kind before.
However, we are a whole lot more than just listening. We don't listen like you do. We have training, experience and lived experiences behind us. We have tools to use. Not just in how we handle what we hear, but also in how we can guide you to improve life for you.
We do not switch off, yawn and just nod our heads. I know for a fact that I just take it all in, feel it, form words to validate and support and then hold a safe space for any reactions. I am engaged in every thought or word and feeling. I see you. I hear you. I feel you. Then I suggest tools to help you reframe your thinking and perception.
Many people are isolated, or they can't turn to someone. They may have no support system. They may not want to burden and burn out friendships. They may feel no one will believe them. Never underestimate the power of a good talk. To speak things out with someone to witness and support you.
A counsellor can help you formulate plans of action and also to find wording and understandings that will help communication with others that you may be having issues with. Some of us can through referral put you onto other practitioners that are niche or are in a different modality.
Talking things out with us helps you to organise your thoughts and to ease your worry. The way I work is through my warmth and kindness and some say a transpersonal and coaching style. I have a lot of life experience and many years of helping people. I qualified in 2003 and have been helping others since 1997 in one form or another. I am also a naturopath and massage therapist. So, I understand the physiological causes sometimes of anxiety and stress.
So, please know I am here for you and feel free to reach out. I am very understanding.
Lisa
