My Counselling Side of Things

October 2020

Hello all! Hope you are all faring well and taking care of yourselves? I am thinking today that I will talk a bit about my other branch of my business. Counselling. Now the reason why I bring this up on my Naturopathy page is because they compliment each other. As you possibly already know, my niche is stress, stress management, burnout and the gut among other things and this translates to psychoemotional components of our condition not just the physical symptomatology.

So, my history is as a counsellor and my naturopathy is more recent. I qualified in 2003 as a counsellor and have helped people in one form or another for 23 years. This led to my wanting to qualify 17 years ago. I have always been a kind and open person. I was the stereo typical type that can sit at a bus stop or in the queue at the shops and have someone tell me their life story. I am very friendly and approachable and so I found myself wanting to help others.

The reason why it got put on the back burner at one point is because I was a single mum and I wanted to focus on being at home for my son. It was a tumultuous time in my life and as they say life got in the way. I did counsel people here and there and more recently in my previous business but I had to survive financially and so worked in other jobs in order to keep the roof over my head.

Now I am reigniting my association membership and putting myself out there to focus solely on my two loves (besides the love of my life, my beautiful son) and making them a one two punch in the helping professions. I have a lot of life experience and so I know what I am talking about when I counsel people. I also adore my naturopathy. I love the research, the community, the artform of shaping treatment to an individual’s needs. I love going down rabbit holes and I am known to work late researching for a client and rummaging through all my text books to get to the bottom of a condition.

Counselling is not different. I have always had my nose in a book. Especially psychology, self help, inspirational books and of course my beautiful and heavy text books. I binge on industry podcasts and webinars and chat to colleagues on social media about our shared passion. As counsellors and naturopaths we have to have ongoing professional development. Its imperative.

I choose to work online as a counsellor and find this more convenient. It is from this current climate and the fact that some people do not have means to get to me. My home is not set up for clients to visit and in my naturopathy I am mobile or use telehealth. I ensure privacy and complete focus on you. Where theres a will theres a way and I intend to help.

So, in closing, I want to say please feel free to reach out and to talk to me. I don’t bite. I can let you know how I can help and see if we are a match. There is no pressure. I don’t do hard sell. Have a great October and I will see you in November.

Warm wishes

Lisa
