Self care

May 2020

Hello everyone!

Wow May already? Where has the year gone? I only just realised I haven’t created the blog for this month. Gee whiz. Anyway, I thought I would babble about something naturopathy-like today before I forget and get carried away with what I am doing.

I feel this blog this month should just discuss overall wellbeing. There has been so much on social media and the news on tv about health and the Corona virus and we are all at saturation point that I don’t want to add to it too much.

Now as a naturopath and natural therapist we are concerned with overall health and wellbeing. This includes your mindset. We are not psychologists. I am not meaning that. I only mean we are aware of the whole picture and how it can affect your health. If you are struggling with anxiety and stress it can affect your body. We give diet and lifestyle advice, and this is alongside the remedies we prescribe you.

Having experienced first hand burn out and exhaustion I know how much stress can harm the body. You may ask, Lisa, why did you let it happen? Because I had no choice but to work hard to keep the bills paid and roof over my head. I am human, like you. However, I now have things in place so that I can take breaks and breathe. I dedicate a space in my time to meditate and go within. I go out into my rather overgrown garden and absorb the good vibes. I eat healthy with a few treats here and there. I am in the process of simplifying my life.

I found I was juggling too many balls and helping too many people. Does this sound like you too? We have so many plates spinning in the air and just how many of them are necessary? At first we may say its ok I can cope. However, over time your body, mind and spirit get worn down. This leaves us susceptible to other illnesses and lowers our immune response. If you are a parent you may rush around doing all the mum/dad stuff and eat on the hop. A sandwich or some crackers and a bite of an apple. Yep! I have been there too.

So, finding a space to just ‘be’, sorry it’s a bit cliched, but do it. Immerse you in something that is shamelessly about YOU. For me it’s a good book and a cup of tea. Or even youtubing categories that I am dreaming about………I love watching drawing tutorials or crochet. Work on your spiritual development. I am not specifically meaning the woo woo. I am meaning self help books or videos. Meditation. Relaxation techniques. Inspirational books. Have conversations over the phone with friends as opposed to messenger conversations. Having a laugh.

Whatever you choose to do and whatever floats your boat do that. NOW!! Do it, even if it is only for ten minutes. Its about doing it. Dedicating me time and sticking to it and maybe even increasing it incrementally so that you don’t feel rushed. It’s worth it. Anyway there I was thinking what am I going to write about this month? And then it all just flows. I am off to faff for a little bit before diving back into my work. Oh this could get out of hand haha! Have a great month and stay safe. See you in June.
