When to see a Naturopath?

February 2020

Hello my friends! Welcome to February and my little patch of crazy. I do hope you are all well? I know some are over east in NSW, South Australia and Victoria and that the weather and fires have been catastrophic. It has been awful watching you go through this and am sending my love over your way. Here in Perth we may still have to be careful with the ‘fuel load’ in the bush but lets not linger too long on this subject. It is a sensitive one.

Now, my blog today, I thought, could be about ‘When to see a Naturopath?’. Many people have only ever seen a naturopath or a herbalist all their lives. Others never have and may never have heard of one until recently. It depends on how open you are to venturing into the field of natural medicine and naturopathy. Have you got a complaint where the thought of normal medicines make you worry? Maybe the potential side effects are of concern? Maybe you just want to have a natural and gentle way to help your ailment.

Now it’s safe to say here that whilst natural medicine is sometimes gentle, it actually can be very effective and powerful as well. However, my point is the ‘why?’. Maybe you are disillusioned with traditional medicine. Perhaps you just heard through a friend or family member about this amazing person who works with herbs. No matter what it is it got you to this point of being curious about how to help yourself naturally. Usually in conjunction with your GP too sometimes.

Make no mistake we naturopaths do not claim that we heal or cure. We can help you though. We endeavour to work in an integrative way with your doctor or health professional and we feel it’s best to work this way as it gives you a bigger picture so to speak. That way if you have some serious condition such as diabetes or depression, we refer you to your GP but we can still assist in other ways to help you with these conditions. This is because these are serious conditions and may need immediate attention. A GP can refer you for further testing and in the case of depression, refer onto a psychologist.

It is up to you to explore your options, but we naturopaths can certainly help you immensely. A naturopath has a diverse knowledge base and tools that they use that can be incorporated into your everyday life. When to see a naturopath? When you want to get back into good health in a natural way that sets you up for life or for a long time. When you prefer natural medicines and a more holistic way of helping yourself. If you are disillusioned with traditional medicine or maybe don’t like the side effects of traditional medicines, then naturopaths may help. Although as practitioners are very aware its important to work with your GP where practicable.

We treat the many body systems and can help with anything from a cold through to eczema and psoriasis. Lupus to ME. Neuralgia to ear infections. Many, many conditions are treatable and all we want if for your comfort and wellbeing to be optimum.

So, depending on what ails you and what avenues you have already tried maybe we Naturopaths can help you. Like I said many have never used anyone other than a naturopath but be are not necessarily a last resort. We are a valid and real methodology. We have a strong scientific component to us too. Ongoing research is being done and we as practitioners have ongoing training, research and self-development going on.

So…..on a closing note. When to see a naturopath? When you feel ready to. When you feel you need to be heard. When you need that little ‘extra’ that you may feel you are not getting. We take our time to hear your story and give you longer than ten minutes. There is nothing wrong with traditional medicine but we as practitioners add to it or compliment it. We can help.

I hope this is helpful and if you need to chat and find out more about how I can help you please feel free to contact me. 0404 018 344.
